Weekend Trip: Tekamah

If you’re looking to escape the city for a day or two, Tekamah is worth adding to your list. Located just 45 minutes from Omaha, this charming small town is home to local restaurants, outdoor recreation, and a peaceful glamping retreat perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway!

THINGS TO DO

During our visit, we spent some time exploring Northridge Country Club, where we got to take a golf cart ride around the beautiful course and enjoy the peaceful scenery. Tekamah may be a small town, but there’s plenty to see and do during a weekend getaway. Here are a few more spots worth checking out while you’re in town:

Northridge Country Club

A 9-hole golf course with scenic views and rolling hills. They have a clubhouse where you can hangout in and relax with a cold beverage or snack before or after hitting the course!

Summit Lake State Recreation Area | @negameandparks

A recreational area located just outside Tekamah. It’s a popular spot for fishing, kayaking, swimming, and more. They also have RV campsites, so you can park your RV and stay the night!

Pelican Point State Recreation Area | @negameandparks

Located on the banks of the Missouri River, this park is a great spot for boating, fishing, and kayaking. They also have campsites available, so you can spend the night and make it a full, fun-filled weekend!

Master’s Hand | @mastershand

A boutique in Tekamah that is described as every woman’s dream shop. They have delicious sweet treats and coffee drinks, including their world-famous cinnamon rolls. They also have a retail shop with curated home goods, floral arrangements, jewelry, and candles. You can also stop by for one of their farm-to-table brunches!

Burt County Museum

A local history museum in the heart of Tekamah. It’s located in a beautifully preserved Neo-Classical Revival mansion built in 1904. The museum is home to vintage toys, clothing, rare artifacts, a one-room country schoolhouse. It also showcases local heritage, including agricultural equipment and tools from the early 1900s!

Tekamah Mini Mall

A multi-vendor indoor marketplace in downtown Tekamah. The market features a mix of antiques, crafts, collectibles, gifts, and home decor. They also sell fresh farm food and artisan goods. It’s a unique shopping experience for locals and visitors!

Historic Bryant House

A well-preserved Queen Ann Victorian house that offers a time-capsule glimpse into the 1890s. The museum houses 70,000+ original family artifacts, incredible interior design and architecture, and they are open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays!

Pheasant Bonanza Hunt Club and Kennel | @pheasantbonanza

Nebraska’s only Orvis-Endorsed Wingshooting Lodge located just outside of Tekamah. Guests can stay in their lodge and cabins and they have a five-star chef, fully stocked bar, and Wine down Sundays with live music during the summer!

PLACES TO EAT & DRINK

After exploring the town, we stopped by Chatterbox and Ronnie’s Bar for a drink and a chance to unwind. Tekamah is home to several local spots serving everything from coffee and comfort food to burgers, pizza, and cold drinks. Here are a few local favorites worth checking out during your visit:

Chatterbox | @chatterboxbrews

A bar and grill in downtown Tekamah. It’s a lively social spot for both locals and travelers. They serve gourmet burgers and homemade pizzas as well as cold beers and handcrafted cocktails. Guests can also enjoy live music on Sunday nights!

Ronnie’s Bar

Ronnie’s is the local dive bar in Tekamah. It’s a friendly, social, and welcoming spot where “everyone knows everyone.” They serve up great pizzas and burgers if you need a quick bite to eat, as well as a well-stocked bar that offers domestic canned and bottled beers, cocktails, wine, and liquor. You can also play keno, catch sports on the TV, or play bar games!

The Beanery | @thebeaneryne

The Beanery has opened a drive-thru location in Tekamah. They serve locally roasted coffee and quick breakfast options!

The Tipsy Pig | @tek_tipsypig

A lively bar and grill in downtown Tekamah. It’s a popular local hangout for drinks and comfort food. You can catch the game on one of their many TVs, hangout on the patio, and enjoy tasty food and drinks!

WHERE TO STAY

If you’re planning to stay overnight, Amber Lea Acres offers a peaceful place to unwind and enjoy a slower pace. Located outside of Tekamah, it’s the perfect home base for a relaxing weekend getaway!

Formerly a winery, it’s now home to glamping suites, community gathering spaces, a flower garden, an outdoor chapel for weddings, and clubhouse that is perfect for weddings, showers, parties, and other events! It’s the perfect outdoor retreat, and the perfect place to stay for a weekend getaway to Tekamah!

M&R’s Nightly Rentals | @mandrnightlyrentals

M & R’s Nightly Rentals, rents out nice, clean, and fully furnished 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units in downtown Tekamah. Their rooms have a kitchen, private bathrooms, LED TV’s, fast Wi-Fi, and they are conveniently located within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, and bars in the heart of Tekamah!
